Kanda & Oliveira is pleased to present “刻層 / STRATA” , a solo exhibition by Marta Palmieri, from Wednesday, August 19 to Sunday, September 13.
Born in Ancona in 1973, Marta Palmieri graduated with a degree in Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino. A member of the International Academy of Ceramics, she currently works between her hometown and Chiba, Japan. Moving fluidly between a distant future and an archaeological past, progress and environmental sustainability, and solidity and fragility, her work has gained increasing international acclaim in recent years.
This exhibition features works created during Palmieri’s summer artist residencies in the Sotobo area of Chiba, where she has been staying every summer since 2024. Beyond the geological landscapes shared by the coastlines of Ancona and Sotobo, the poetic rhythm of daily life—where living and creating intertwined inside a traditional house in the Boso countryside—surfaces on the works as sedimentations of memory.
